The gooseneck is attached to the pump and is used to fill the automatic taper. Place a pump gasket on the pump housing, over the protruding studs. Then, set the gooseneck over the studs and tighten the hex nuts firmly to prevent leakage.
Maintenance
Remove the gooseneck from the pump and clean thoroughly with a brush and water (or a water hose) to remove all joint compound from the tool. Then, after the tool is clean, lightly oil.
